Today was a depressing day for me. I tend to get like that in winter anyway, but today I realized this was my last Christmas for at least two years with my daughter and son-in-law and grandbabies. They go on the mission field to Papua New Guinea in early 2017. I’ve been supportive because I know this is their dream to serve their Lord on mission. But I feel old and sad today.
Then I had to go read the news online and realize there is so much evil and pain in this world for God’s children to endure. Our country is truly fallen away from the Lord and His precepts. No wonder so many people are unhappy, sick and depressed to the point of suicide. Unless we have the “hope of heaven”, then life can be extremely depressing and sad.
Tonight I want to pray again for our nation, for the followers of Jesus and those who love the Lord and for those who do not believe and have no hope.
Dear Lord, I come to you tonight in a frail state of mind asking for Your wonderful love to surround me and give me hope for my future and that of my children, grandchildren and my nation. I love to read Your words in 1 Corinthians chapter 2:.
“That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.”
Lord, I know that each of us – Your children – have the blessed hope of being with You in Your Kingdom someday and for all of eternity.
Jesus said himself in John 14
“1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well. 2 In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.…”
I know we have that promise from Jesus himself and that in itself is a glory and a joy that is beyond any suffering we endure here on this fallen earth.
God I pray You remind each of us in this nation tonight that You are greater than he that is in the World and that You have Overcome and already won the Victory and that we will live in eternity with You celebrating Your power and Your might and Your majesty forever and ever.
I know Lord that while victory is Yours, still evil wins battles here in our land. Please Lord, root out the evil in our land and replace it with Your light from above. God, You are Light, and Love and Holiness. I pray that those in our land who follow after You will be given Power from You to overcome the evil and darkness in our land and that Your mighty angel warriors will fight and defeat Satan’s minions so that his evil plots and plans are disrupted and that Your children are protected.
I lift up our President elect and Vice President to You, asking that You grant them great wisdom and discernment to know the hearts of men and women and that they will appoint men and women after Your own heart to serve in the great positions of our land. I pray that those who serve the evil one will be caught and punished before more harm can be done in this nation.
I pray for a generation of our children to be raised up that desire with all their hearts and minds and bodies to serve You and follow Your precepts.
And Lord, I pray for those who have not yet decided to repent of their sins and turn to You for reconciliation, that they will be convicted by Your Holy Spirit to seek that from You. I pray You burden their hearts with their sins and their need for You in their lives. I pray everywhere they turn, the evidence of Your creation and Your love is so vast, they cannot deny it and that You will send Your children into their paths to bring Your love and Your Word – the Good News of Jesus to them.
Lord I lift up those who follow other paths, thinking that is the way to heaven and to You, O God. I pray You will show them the error of this and the false Gods they serve, I pray they will reach out to learn more of You and of Your son Jesus and of the free gift of salvation You offer to them. I pray the emptiness in their souls demand the truth of Your Word and Your love.
Lord, I pray all these things in the name of Your son, Jesus and my Savior. Amen.
Your comments and your own prayers are welcome.
