Christmas Eve Is A Great Time to Pray

It’s now Christmas Eve and my mind turns toward the ‘Reason for the Season”.  Tonight and tomorrow, as believers, we will celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Just thinking about how the birth of an infant – a holy, divine infant and also a man child – born over 2,000 years ago has changed our world and yours and my life as individuals, is totally amazing.  Only our wonderful heavenly Father could make such a plan to reconcile himself to a sinful and dying world.  Even His mighty angelic creations understood and praised the birth of Jesus, as He lowered Himself from the Father’s throne and took on the form of a man and entered this world to live and to die for us.

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

The angels that night proclaimed “peace on earth” to those on whom God’s favor rests.

What does that mean, to have God’s favor? The Psalmist says:

“Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.” – Psalm 51:12

So, do we have to be righteous?  If so, how is that possible?

Fortunately, even though we are flawed, sinful people, we can certainly can attain righteousness.  The Bible tells us:

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” – 2 Corinthians 5;21

Our righteousness is found in Jesus only.  The angels proclaimed our favor with God on that night long ago.  What a reason for us to celebrate this season.  Our Savior, Jesus, bestows His righteousness and God’s favor on us and because of Him, we also receive the peace promised to us that night.

Today, my prayer is for that peace to be realized in our nation.

My Prayer For Peace On The Earth

Dear Lord, I come to you early this morning, thanking You for Your gift of Jesus who you sent to become our sacrificial lamb.  The lamb that was slain to take away our sins and reconcile us with You.  I pray for all those in this nation today who call Jesus their Lord and Savior, to understand that we are already promised Your peace through Jesus’s birth.  Jesus himself comforted His disciples as recorded in John 14:27, saying “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

So Lord, I pray we each be reminded that although this fallen world contains many sorrows and fearsome things, we can receive peace from Jesus our Savior and because of Him, our hearts can be unafraid or troubled.

And Lord, because Your love has given me such a wondrous gift of peace, I want to pray for those who live without You, in darkness and in hopelessness and fear.  Perhaps they haven’t ever heard of You and the good news of Jesus; or perhaps they have been deceived by the evil one to follow false gods, but I pray You will send Your Holy Spirit to touch each heart and convict them first of their sins against You and that they can reach out to You asking for Your help.  If they do that, I pray You will send Your servants to tell them the good news about Jesus and that they will repent and receive Him as Lord and Savior.  I pray that many will turn to Jesus today and tomorrow and become Your child and a follower of Your holy Son.

I pray especially for those lost in the service of Mohamad and the Lie of Islam.  I pray for conversions, many, many of them who will turn from that false doctrine and turn to Jesus and receive Your Salvation and Your peace today.

Lord, I pray Your blessings on my country, the United Stated of America this Christmas and that Your hand of protection will be upon her, protecting her from the evil plots and schemes of Satan.  I pray those who are beyond redemption and are full of evil and corruption and hold high positions in our land, be brought down and destroyed and our leadership returned to You, oh God.  May we truly be One Nation, Under You, oh Lord. And may the peace of Jesus be upon us this Christmas.

I pray that You will forgive my sins and the sins of my nation and bless us in the name of Jesus, Your son and our Savior.  Amen.
