Each day, I almost dread turning on the TV or logging onto the internet. I see more and more tragedies, terrible fires in our northwest, killer hurricanes in the Atlantic oceans raging down on our coasts, earthquakes in various places and threads of war being discussed in the political realms.
Alternate lifestyles of all kinds are destroying God’s natural order and the “core family” in our society. Biblical morals are fading and being replaced with “anything that feels good in our own eyes” being OK and right. Sometimes I wonder if God came down like he did to Abraham in response to the evil of Sodom and Gomorra, He would indeed find much the same if looking for 10 righteous men. Many in our society serve the “God of Tolerance”, justifying their hate toward righteousness and biblical morality. The world and our nation still face the threat of terrorism from radical Islamists whose evil quest for murder and torture continues against those who believe differently from them. Today, I’ve been studying what the Bible says about Christians and their governments. The Bible does direct us in Romans saying this:
” Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.
6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respects; if honor, then honor.”
We are told to be subject to those in authority and to do good and right as far as government laws so that we will not be liable to punishment for wrongdoing. God has allowed the establishment of our Government and its laws and we are to comply with those laws. The Bible says we are to pay our taxes and what we owe and to give our respect to the governing authorities because if we do not, we rebel against what God has instituted. Its been several days since I’ve posted my prayer for our nation so I’ll be catching up on some things I need to pray for. Of course I’ll be praying for our nations new administration and the new President and his team, the safety of our nation and its citizens, the prosperity of our nation and its citizens, the faith of our Christian believers across the nation and the salvation of the non-believers who live in darkness without hope of an eternity with God.
First, A Praise
Last night, my husband and I were watching a documentary on the 1980 incident at the Titan 2 silo site in Damascus, Arkansas. I would have been in my late 20’s and he in his early 30’s. I really can’t remember anything of the incident. At that age, I was so focused on my activities and my coaching and sports, I paid no attention to news and watched very little TV. After watching the documentary, I now realize how close Arkansas came to being eradicated completely by a nuclear explosion. That would have been the end of us, all due to a simple tool dropping accident. Continue reading “Wednesday, January 11, 2017”
It’s now Christmas Eve and my mind turns toward the ‘Reason for the Season”. Tonight and tomorrow, as believers, we will celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
Just thinking about how the birth of an infant – a holy, divine infant and also a man child – born over 2,000 years ago has changed our world and yours and my life as individuals, is totally amazing. Only our wonderful heavenly Father could make such a plan to reconcile himself to a sinful and dying world. Even His mighty angelic creations understood and praised the birth of Jesus, as He lowered Himself from the Father’s throne and took on the form of a man and entered this world to live and to die for us. It’s been a few days since I’ve posted a prayer. Life has gotten pretty busy as it does for all of us during the holiday season. This year I’m really trying to focus on the “reason for the season”. So I’m saying “Merry Christmas” to all of you who read this. Christ is truly what this season is about, not parties, presents, feasting or Santa. December 25th is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ who died a horrible death to save us from receiving the just reward for our sins against a holy God. I’ve been reading news and thinking about the new administration for our country that is being put together by Donald Trump’s team. There are several people he has selected that I’m pretty happy with, Ben Carson for one. But there are others I really do not know much about and I’m concerned about the Secretary of State cabinet position that has yet to be filled. I know that I should be praying about this pick and others that have already been selected and some not selected yet.
I’ve also been feeling sorry for Hillary Clinton after reading how broken she is appearing to her staffers, so I want to pray for her again.
Fellow Christians, today my heart is breaking for specific prayers. Last night I was allowed to see a video that was so evil and so repulsive that I found it hard to believe a person could want to do such an evil deed. However, is does happen, a lot and even in our own beloved nation.
I was thinking last night that God does give us a promise for our nation in 2 Chronicles.
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”
Today I feel the push to pray for our law enforcement throughout our land. First for those in blue, our policemen and women who place themselves frequently in harms way while enforcing the law.
Lord, I pray for these men and women who know You as Lord. I pray they will feel the need to walk closer with You and also crave the reading of Your Word. I pray for their safety from harm as they go about their daily tasks. I pray that You will give them wisdom in how to react to the many different situations they find themselves in while performing their duties. I pray you will give them many of the gifts of the spirit. Continue reading “Thursday, November 17, 2017”
I do apologize for not posting my prayer yesterday, but the things of this world kinda got in the way and I allowed them to keep me from my computer and this blog.
I did spend some time yesterday morning listening to a sermon by my preacher here in Bella Vista, Mike McCauley of Bella Vista Baptist Church. I do enjoy his sermons, which tend to step on my toes a lot. That is good because sometimes we all need to be shaken up a little and made to think on the things of God in a different way.
