Each day, I almost dread turning on the TV or logging onto the internet. I see more and more tragedies, terrible fires in our northwest, killer hurricanes in the Atlantic oceans raging down on our coasts, earthquakes in various places and threads of war being discussed in the political realms.
Alternate lifestyles of all kinds are destroying God’s natural order and the “core family” in our society. Biblical morals are fading and being replaced with “anything that feels good in our own eyes” being OK and right. Sometimes I wonder if God came down like he did to Abraham in response to the evil of Sodom and Gomorra, He would indeed find much the same if looking for 10 righteous men. Many in our society serve the “God of Tolerance”, justifying their hate toward righteousness and biblical morality. The world and our nation still face the threat of terrorism from radical Islamists whose evil quest for murder and torture continues against those who believe differently from them. Yesterday was my Mother-in-Law’s 90th birthday. She is doing very well for being 90. She walks better than I do and her mind is still active and pretty sharp.
Mel and I took her out for dinner last night to celebrate her special day. We took her to Cracker Barrel because there are lots of veggies for her to choose from as well as soups.
Esther is a lady that truly loves the Lord and I know where she will be heading when her life is over here. She has had a long life, but not all of us are granted 90 years here on earth. My own parents only lived until they were 67 and then passed. I won’t see them again until I see them in heaven. Continue reading “Wednesday, May 4, 2017, My Prayer for Today”
Today I was thinking about my daughter and son-in-law who are on the mission field thousands of miles away from me in the jungles of Papua New Guinea. I love my daughter dearly and have prayed for her all of her life, as an infant, a toddler, a grade school child, in Junior High, Senior High, College, in her marriage and as a mom herself. Many years ago I read a book by Stormie Omartian about praying for your children. I remember I loved it. That was many years ago and now my lovely christian daughter and her family are serving on the mission field in a third world country. Today I was thinking about that book which I no longer have. (I gave away tons of hardcover and paperback books when I decluttered my home and went digital for my books). So I searched for her book and found this one “The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children” and downloaded it. I will be reading this new book and praying again for my adult daughter.
Our nation is so different from when I was growing up and even from when I was raising my now 29 year old daughter. We need to pray that our nation is still a place for raising godly children. Continue reading “April 6, 2017, Prayer”
Today my heart is heavy with worry for my nation because it seems that the security of our citizens has been compromised from within and many evil plans and plots are underway to undermine our elected President and his administration. What’s worse is this evil is being led by a former president and his minions in order to disrupt the government of our country. This puts every aspect of our government and all of our citizens in danger. This is my prayer focus for today. Continue reading “Special prayer for our nation today”
Today is Valentine Day in our Nation. A day that we celebrate our love for special people in our lives. But as I read post after post and news articles, one after another, I see that love is very far from the minds of many of those in our nation. There is a great lack of love and even civility towards our elected President, Donald Trump. In fact, the hatred shown is great and disturbing. Today my prayers are for President Trump and his administration and his leadership.
Today is a very special day for our nation. Our constitution provides for the orderly transition of leadership. The 20th amendment to our Constitution was ratified on January 23, 1933. Check out this link on the history of the 20th Amendment. These paragraphs are included in the article.
In order to ensure a smooth transition of power, there is a need for a period of time between the election and the swearing in of the new period. New presidents have to choose cabinet members and other key administration members, as well as get up to speed on security issues and simply began the task of physically moving a new team to Washington. For the old president, this time in office is referred to as “the lame duck” period, a term taken from Wall Street that used to refer to people who could not pay off their loans–persons, like the lame duck president, without much capital.
Before the enactment of the 20th Amendment in 1933, the new president was not sworn until the March following the election. This long delay caused problems. In the “secession winter” after the election of Abraham Lincoln, President James Buchanan watched as secessionists seized federal forts and arsenals. By March 1861, when Lincoln finally took office, the Civil War was nearly lost before it even began. Seven decades later, in the middle of the Great Depression, the lame duck period of president Herbert Hoover seemed far too long. Hoover and Franklin Roosevelt barely communicated and the country waited for decisive action from its newly chosen leader. In response, the 20th Amendment was proposed and adopted.
Its been several days since I’ve posted my prayer for our nation so I’ll be catching up on some things I need to pray for. Of course I’ll be praying for our nations new administration and the new President and his team, the safety of our nation and its citizens, the prosperity of our nation and its citizens, the faith of our Christian believers across the nation and the salvation of the non-believers who live in darkness without hope of an eternity with God.
First, A Praise
Last night, my husband and I were watching a documentary on the 1980 incident at the Titan 2 silo site in Damascus, Arkansas. I would have been in my late 20’s and he in his early 30’s. I really can’t remember anything of the incident. At that age, I was so focused on my activities and my coaching and sports, I paid no attention to news and watched very little TV. After watching the documentary, I now realize how close Arkansas came to being eradicated completely by a nuclear explosion. That would have been the end of us, all due to a simple tool dropping accident. Continue reading “Wednesday, January 11, 2017”
As 2016 is fast coming to its end, I’m concerned about our nation and that the outgoing administration is rushing to seemingly obstruct the incoming administration in several important issues. For one, the thought that the US refused to back our long time ally, Israel, in the United Nations resolution concerning the settlements is very disturbing. The US has supported Israel since before the cold war and has had a mutually beneficial relationship. However the current administration has made no secret of its contempt of the US/Israeli supportive relationship. As for US Christians, it is important that our country support Israel because of the covenant relationship God has with the Israeli people. God’s promises to Abraham are not yet totally fulfilled. Israel is still special to God and should therefore also be special to us as believers. Continue reading “Thursday, December 29, 2016”
It’s been a few days since I’ve posted a prayer. Life has gotten pretty busy as it does for all of us during the holiday season. This year I’m really trying to focus on the “reason for the season”. So I’m saying “Merry Christmas” to all of you who read this. Christ is truly what this season is about, not parties, presents, feasting or Santa. December 25th is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ who died a horrible death to save us from receiving the just reward for our sins against a holy God. This has been the Thanksgiving weekend and while I’ve thought a lot about what I have to be thankful for, I’m now ready to type out my prayers. My daughter and her family has been visiting and of course I’m feeling very thankful for she and her husband and my little grandsons. They have certainly made mine and Mel’s lives busier and more exciting the past few days. Its also been a bittersweet time together as it will be three years before we get to spend another Thanksgiving with them. They will be on the mission field starting early next year and gone for at least two years doing Bible Translation work among those who have no Bible in their heart language.
A few weeks ago, my son-in-law jokingly posted that he would be leaving the country no matter who was elected President of the US. Of course he was telling the truth, as they will all be living thousands of miles away from us while on the mission field. But even while living outside the U.S. he will be praying for our nation and its leaders. This will always be the country where he grew up and his family and many friends live in.
