The other day I was sitting in my recliner looking through my library of ebooks on my iPhone I have an iphone 7 plus and I love it because its large enough that I can read my books on it. My poor old ipad was getting so old and cracked that I almost couldn’t read my ebooks on it anymore. So I’m really happy to be able to use my iphone now.
As I was scrolling down through my lists of ebooks, I noticed one name “Heaven” by Randy Alcorn. I remember loving reading this one a great while back and I opened it and began reading some parts of it again.
I really enjoyed reading about what Randy thought of Heaven and what the Bible indicates about heaven. Randy believes that Heaven will one day be basically the new, restored earth – an earth like God had originally intended it to be and that is where believers will be spending their eternity with God. Today I was thinking about my daughter and son-in-law who are on the mission field thousands of miles away from me in the jungles of Papua New Guinea. I love my daughter dearly and have prayed for her all of her life, as an infant, a toddler, a grade school child, in Junior High, Senior High, College, in her marriage and as a mom herself. Many years ago I read a book by Stormie Omartian about praying for your children. I remember I loved it. That was many years ago and now my lovely christian daughter and her family are serving on the mission field in a third world country. Today I was thinking about that book which I no longer have. (I gave away tons of hardcover and paperback books when I decluttered my home and went digital for my books). So I searched for her book and found this one “The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children” and downloaded it. I will be reading this new book and praying again for my adult daughter.
Our nation is so different from when I was growing up and even from when I was raising my now 29 year old daughter. We need to pray that our nation is still a place for raising godly children. Continue reading “April 6, 2017, Prayer”
Today is Valentine Day in our Nation. A day that we celebrate our love for special people in our lives. But as I read post after post and news articles, one after another, I see that love is very far from the minds of many of those in our nation. There is a great lack of love and even civility towards our elected President, Donald Trump. In fact, the hatred shown is great and disturbing. Today my prayers are for President Trump and his administration and his leadership.
It’s been a few days since I’ve posted a prayer. Life has gotten pretty busy as it does for all of us during the holiday season. This year I’m really trying to focus on the “reason for the season”. So I’m saying “Merry Christmas” to all of you who read this. Christ is truly what this season is about, not parties, presents, feasting or Santa. December 25th is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ who died a horrible death to save us from receiving the just reward for our sins against a holy God. Today was a depressing day for me. I tend to get like that in winter anyway, but today I realized this was my last Christmas for at least two years with my daughter and son-in-law and grandbabies. They go on the mission field to Papua New Guinea in early 2017. I’ve been supportive because I know this is their dream to serve their Lord on mission. But I feel old and sad today.
Then I had to go read the news online and realize there is so much evil and pain in this world for God’s children to endure. Our country is truly fallen away from the Lord and His precepts. No wonder so many people are unhappy, sick and depressed to the point of suicide. Unless we have the “hope of heaven”, then life can be extremely depressing and sad.
Today Lord, I come to you, asking for forgiveness and Your help for myself first. I was gently admonished today by a non-believing friend and reminded that words are divisive. Of course its not something I was unaware of and I definitely agree that words can both help and hurt. It seems like in our world of today, not only is there a battle of spirit, mind and body, but certainly that of words too. I think a wide-spread disease that runs through our society of today is “diarrhea of the mouth”.
