Being a Mom

Today I was thinking about my daughter and son-in-law who are on the mission field thousands of miles away from me in the jungles of Papua New Guinea.  I love my daughter dearly and have prayed for her all of her life, as an infant, a toddler, a grade school child, in Junior High, Senior High, College, in her marriage and as a mom herself.  Many years ago I read a book by Stormie Omartian about praying for your children.  I remember I loved it.  That was many years ago and now my lovely christian daughter and her family are serving on the mission field in a third world country.  Today I was thinking about that book which I no longer have.  (I gave away tons of hardcover and paperback books when I decluttered my home and went digital for my books).  So I searched for her book and found this one “The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children” and downloaded it.  I will be reading this new book and praying again for my adult daughter.

Our nation is so different from when I was growing up and even from when I was raising my now 29 year old daughter.  We need to pray that our nation is still a place for raising godly children.

My Prayer for Today

Lord I come to You today thinking about the children who live in our nation today.  Its so different from when I was growing up.  It seems like there is a “War on Christianity” in our media, our schools, our entertainment industry and some parts of our government.  I pray Lord that You will show each Christian parent how to raise a godly child despite the worldly and fleshly society we live in.  I pray You will be with those in the education and entertainment arenas who believe in You and Your Word, to strengthen them and grow their faith in You, so that they can stand for you in an ungodly world.  I pray that those men and women who pastor the churches in our nation will reach out to parents to teach them how to impart godly principles to each of their children.  May we be true and wise role models to our children and the children of others who are around us.

I found these 7 prayers online to pray for my child and I share them here.  The original online article is found here.

1. That Jesus will call them and no one will hinder them from coming.

Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away. (Matthew 19:13–15)

2. That they will respond in faith to Jesus’s faithful, persistent call.

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

3. That they will experience sanctification through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit and will increasingly desire to fulfill the greatest commandments.

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37–39)

4. That they will not be unequally yoked in intimate relationships, especially marriage.

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)

5. That their thoughts will be pure.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8)

6. That their hearts will be stirred to give generously to the Lord’s work.

All the men and women, the people of Israel, whose heart moved them to bring anything for the work that the Lord had commanded by Moses to be done brought it as a freewill offering to the Lord. (Exodus 35:29)

7. That when the time is right, they will GO!

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18–20)

I thought these are awesome prayers for our children.

Here is a cool link to praying for your grandchildren.  I know I love my two darling grandsons dearly and pray often for them, especially as they are growing up in a third world country and I only see them every few years.  The different things to pray in the linked article definitely apply to them.

Lord, today I was watching the TV and the news on the beginning of the “Nuclear Option” vote to begin to confirm a new supreme court justice for our nation.  The men and women who make up our supreme court are very important to what the future of our nation will be like.  We need to pray for godly men and women to be appointed and confirmed to sit on the Supreme Court.

It is important for our prayer life to include different prayers for those in high places and the leaders in our country.  So Lord, I pray that the men and women who serve as Supreme Court Justices for this nation be those that you approve of and that know You and serve You as well as being well versed on the laws of our land.  I pray for this coming vote on Mr. Gorsuch tomorrow.  I pray that your good and perfect will be done with this vote and this position.  I pray for each congressman and woman who cast a vote – that they will prayerfully seek Your will in this matter and not just respond to a party line vote.

I also pray for our President, Donald Trump and each of those who serve in his administration.  I pray that You will gift these men and women with love, wisdom, discernment, and skill to perform their duties in a way that will honor You and is according to Your will for our nation.  I pray for the safety of the President and VicePresident and their families.  I pray that these leaders will seek you daily and learn from You how to best serve our nation.

I pray for those in high places in our land who do not know you or serve you.  I pray they will somehow be shown the truth about Your love and the gift of Jesus for their salvation and eternal life and that they will choose to accept Your free gift and turn their lives over to you.  And if they refuse to acknowledge You, then I pray You will not allow them to continue to serve Satan and his evil intentions for our country.  May they be discredited and removed from their jobs so they can do no harm to our nation.

Finally Lord I ask for forgiveness for my many sins and give you all the glory for sending Jesus to take my sins upon his innocent body to give me the opportunity to be reconciled to You and live with you in eternity.  I praise and worship You today.  In Jesus name I pray all these things, amen.

    1. Your words and thoughts are so profound and full of the Holy Spirit’s teachings. Thank you for your prayers of direction, thanksgiving, praise for ourselves, families community, and country.

You are so talented in expressing your thoughts into words. You should write a book!

Be blessed today in the love of Jesus.

      1. Ms Debbie, thanks so much for visiting my blogsite and reading my prayers and your kind comments. I love to share things via words and especially my prayers. Somehow I pray better when I write my words down, even if I delete them right afterward. It kind of feels like I get the emotion out of me and it takes a weight off. I totally believe in the power of prayer and of our mighty God. He is so good and so faithful – however do people without him make it through this life. May you have a blessed day also Debbie. -Shirley
